Presenting to a doctor with a lump in the neck is a fairly common manifestation for head and neck malignancy, lymphoma, thyroid tumours or other cancers. However, it is to be noted that many “lumps” in the neck are not necessarily cancers.
What is invasive lobular cancer (ILC)? Invasive lobular breast cancer (also called Infiltrating lobular breast  carcinoma) is a subtype of breast cancer which arises from the milk-producing lobules which connect to the ducts that carry milk to the nipple.  It is the second most common type of invasive breast cancer after infiltrating ductal cancer, and comprises 5-10% of all invasive lesions.
Lung cancer can occur in non-smokers. The population trend in lung cancer is changing and this is increasingly recognized worldwide.   In Asia, up to a third of lung cancer patients diagnosed are never smokers while the figures in West are lower.  Intriguingly, there are differences between gender too.  In one of the studies reported, approximately 15% of men compared with 60 to 80 percent of women with lung cancer were never-smokers!

Colorectal cancer refers to a cancer arising from these parts of the large intestine. The anatomy of the large intestine is shown in the picture provided.
What is the most common brain tumour in adults? It is actually metastatic brain tumour; estimated to be about 200,000 cases in the United States annually. The term for cancer spreading to the brain tissue is brain metastasis or brain secondaries. It is a serious condition presenting as a major hurdle for patients with cancer. It can occur when there is good control of the cancer in other parts of the body. This presents a frustrating problem for the patient and doctor looking after them. There is a general observation of an increase in brain metastases in recent years. Several possible reasons include improved systemic therapy (better chemotherapy and medication control of disease outside of the brain), better survival of patients and improved imaging and detection.
Ms Angelina Jolie has spoken about her decision to have preventive surgery for ovary cancer in Mar 2015 in the New York Times. She is known to carry a hereditary mutation in the BRCA1 gene, which increased her risk for ovarian cancer and breast cancer. In addition, the type of breast cancer commonly associated with BRCA1 mutation carriers is triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) which tends to be more aggressive.
