BIOGRAPHY

Dr Ooi Wei Seong is a Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist at OncoCare Cancer Centre. His subspecialty interests are in breast cancer, lung Cancer, and gastrointestinal Cancers (colon, rectum, pancreas, liver, gastric). He has more than 20 years of clinical practice.

Dr Ooi has over 15 years of practicing experience as a medical oncologist in Ireland, Canada, and Singapore. He completed his MB BCh BAO BA (Honours) from Trinity College Dublin and is accredited with the MRCP (UK) and FAMS (Singapore). He started his oncology training at St Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin after that and later spent three years at Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre in Toronto, Canada as a clinical fellow in oncology.

He then returned to Singapore and obtained his specialist accreditation in medical oncology, before practicing at the National Cancer Centre Singapore, where he was a recipient of the Singapore Health Quality Service Award for his exemplary service to patients.

Dr Ooi has special interest in breast, lung, and colon cancers. He has contributed to over 20 peer-reviewed publications on medical oncology, was involved in multiple investigator-initiated and pharmaceutical-led clinical trials, and frequently attends international conferences and meetings on cancer. Dr Ooi has also presented his research on bone health and mechanisms of bone metastases in cancer patients at these events. In addition, he enjoys giving public talks on cancer risks, screening, and treatment both locally and overseas.

Dr Ooi was also Clinical Tutor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, teaching junior doctors, nurses, Duke-NUS students, and elective fellows.

Dr Ooi is fluent in spoken English, Mandarin, Hokkien, Cantonese, and is able to converse in Malay, and Bahasa Indonesia. He has cared for patients from a wide range of regional and international locations, including Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, China, USA, Canada, and Mongolia.
