Dr Thomas Soh is a Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist at OncoCare Cancer Centre. His subspecialty interest is in gastrointestinal (oesophageal, gastric, colon, and rectal cancer) and hepatobiliary Cancer (liver, pancreas, bile duct, and gallbladder cancers). He also manages patients with neuroendocrine cancers and gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GIST). He has more than 20 years of clinical practice. He graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2003 and obtained his Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (United Kingdom) in 2007. He later completed his advanced specialist training in Medical Oncology in 2012. Prior to entering private practice, Dr Soh was previously a Consultant in the Department of Haematology Oncology at the National University Hospital (NUH) and a Visiting Consultant at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.
Dr Soh was actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and served as core faculty for the Internal Medicine Residency program and the Oncology Senior Residency program at the National University Hospital from 2012 to 2016. He was recognised for his mentorship and teaching, receiving the Teaching Excellence Award in 2014 from the National University Cancer Institute (NCIS), as well as the Best Tutor Award in 2015 for undergraduate teaching by the University Medical Cluster, NUH.
Dr Soh is committed to delivering quality healthcare and has served as both lead and co-lead in several healthcare improvement projects. He has received multiple awards for his contributions to Clinical Practice Improvement Programmes implemented at the National University Hospital (NUH). From 2013 to 2015, he served in a leadership role as Honorary Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Singapore Society of Oncology. Dr Soh is actively involved in both research and education in cancer medicine. He has received funding from the National Medical Research Council (Singapore), having been awarded the Clinical Investigator Salary Support Programme (CISSP) grant three times. His research focuses on drug response and toxicity in cancer treatment, particularly in understanding how chemotherapy and targeted therapies are absorbed and cleared in the body, in relation to pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. He has also published on genetic variants affecting chemotherapy response in Asian cancer patients.
His research in colorectal cancer includes work involving cell-free DNA, as well as chemotherapy agents such as regorafenib and the FOLFIRI regimen (irinotecan, 5-fluorouracil, and folinic acid). He has served as principal investigator in several multi-centre gastrointestinal cancer clinical trials, and his research has resulted in more than 20 publications in high-impact medical and oncology journals. He has also been the principal investigator for studies on circulating tumour cells and has conducted clinical trials in hepatocellular carcinoma (hepatoma) involving drugs such as sorafenib, lenvatinib, and cabozantinib. His colorectal cancer research includes trials involving cetuximab (Erbitux) with FOLFOX (oxaliplatin, 5- fluorouracil, and folinic acid), FOLFIRI regimens, aflibercept, and Y-90 (TheraSphere). In advanced pancreatic cancer, he has been the principal investigator for studies using gemcitabine, masitinib, and abraxane. These experiences position him well to care for cancer patients, and he is recognised for his dedication and expertise in these areas.
Dr Soh is fluent in English, Mandarin, Malay, Bahasa Indonesia, and Hokkien. He has cared for many Indonesian and Malay patients, as well as international patients from Vietnam, Myanmar, Bangladesh, and Cambodia, with the support of interpreters where needed.
