BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Zac (Qingyuan) Zhuang is a Senior Specialist in Palliative Medicine at OncoCare Cancer Centre, dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care for individuals with serious illnesses. With over 15 years of clinical experience, he supports patients and families through every phase of the cancer journey — managing complex symptoms, enhancing quality of life, and guiding difficult medical decisions with empathy and clarity.

Trained in Family Medicine and Palliative Care, Dr. Zhuang integrates broad-based expertise to deliver seamless and compassionate care from diagnosis to end-of-life. He obtained his MBBS from the National University of Singapore (NUS), followed by a Master of Medicine (Family Medicine), and specialist accreditation in Palliative Medicine. He also completed a Master of Clinical Investigation and is currently pursuing a Master of Biomedical Informatics, reflecting his passion for integrating research and technology to improve care.

Before joining OncoCare, Dr. Zhuang was a Consultant in the Division of Supportive and Palliative Care at the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS). He worked closely with oncologists, nurses, and allied health professionals to provide holistic and integrated care, ensuring patients received timely symptom management, psychosocial support, and seamless transitions between treatment settings.

He has led several national and institutional initiatives to improve service delivery through data-driven approaches, including chairing the Singapore Hospice Council’s Palliative National Minimum Dataset and the SingHealth-Duke NUS Palliative Care Registry. He also served in leadership roles within health informatics and data science, including as Deputy Chair of the NCCS Epic Oncology Steering Committee and Lead of the NCCS Data Computational Science Core.

Dr. Zhuang is an active clinical researcher and educator. He has been awarded over $500,000 in research funding and has published in journals such as BMC Medicine, Journal of Pain and Symptom Management, and Annals of the Academy of Medicine Singapore. He also serves on the editorial board for BMC Medicine. His research focuses on real-world data to improve care transitions, hospital utilization, and palliative access. As Clinical Assistant Professor at both Duke-NUS and Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, he is also a dedicated mentor and teacher, recognized with multiple SingHealth RISE Awards for excellence in education.

Fluent in English, Mandarin, and Hokkien, Dr. Zhuang ensures that patients from diverse backgrounds feel heard and supported. As he puts it: “The cancer journey can be a roller coaster of highs and lows—my role is to support and guide patients, helping them navigate through with comfort and clarity.”
